민초들에게 베푸시는 하나님의 은혜

인생은 참으로 어렵고 힘듭니다. 이전에도 어려웠고, 지금도 어렵고, 앞으로도 어려울 것입니다. 제가 만난 외국인 노동자 가운데 어렵지 않은 사람은 한 사람도 없었습니다. 사람은 누구나 문제를 가지고 있습니다. 그리고 모든 사람은 자기 문제를 가장 크게 생각하는 경향이 있습니다. 외국인 노동자들에게도 가슴 아픈 이야기가 있습니다.

힘든 인생을 우리의 힘과 지혜로 바꿀 수 없습니다. 인생을 우리의 노력으로 변화시킬 수 없습니다. 인생은 옛날이나 지금이나 같습니다. 산이 여전히 산인 것과 같습니다. 우리가 할 수 있는 유일한 길은 인생을 보는 관점을 바꾸는 것입니다. 인생을 변화시키려고 몸부림치기보다는 우리 자신을 변화시키는 것입니다. 우리를 둘러싸고 있는 주변 환경이 문제가 아니라 우리 안에 있는 환경의 문제입니다. 환경을 보는 우리 관점의 문제입니다.

2004년도 여전히 외국인 노동자들을 힘들고 어렵게 만들었습니다. 그러나 우리는 어려울 때일수록 어려움으로부터 도피를 하지 말아야 합니다. 오히려 어려움을 직면해야 합니다. 어려움을 품고 안아 친구로 만들어야 합니다. 인생이 어렵고 힘들수록 우리는 용기를 가져야 합니다. 그리고 험악한 세상을 살았던 믿음의 선조들을 기억하면서 그들에게서 지혜와 용기를 배워야 합니다.

우리 친구들이나 제가 힘들고 어려운 일을 만나게 되면 성경에 나오는 인물들을 묵상하거나소개합니다. 그들의 생애를 통해 발견하는 공통점은, 그들 모두 고난과 시련을 통과한 사람들이었다는 것입니다. 우리들의 문제를 이미 경험했으며, 우리들의 아픔은 이미 그들도 똑같이 체험했습니다. 그리고 다른 사람들과 다른 점이 있다면 고난과 시련이 닥쳤을 때 하나님의 관점에 문제를 보았고 창조적으로 대처했다는 것입니다.

험악한 세월을 살면서 승리했던 인물 중에 야곱이 있습니다. 야곱은 인생을 나그넷길이라고 고백했습니다. 야곱의 생애를 통해 외국인 노동자들의 삶이 반추되는 사실을 배우게 되었습니다. 야비한 인간, 사기치는 인간, 두려워하는 인간, 고난받은 인간, 그리고 두 가면(mask) 사이에 방황하는 인간의 내면적인 세계를 배웠습니다.

야곱의 생애를 통해 인간이 얼마나 아름답게 변화될 수 있는가를 배웠습니다. 거짓말을 즐겨했던 한 인간이 성숙한 모습으로 생의 마지막을 마감하는 모습을 보면서 하나님의 은혜가 그의 안에 있었습니다. 야곱을 변화시킨 것은 바로 하나님의 은혜였습니다.

어쩌면 외국인 노동자들은 민초들과 같은 존재들입니다. 하나님께서는 이들을 나그네들이라고 말씀하시면서 손님같이 대접하라고 말씀하셨습니다. (레위기 19:33-34) 하나님은 이들을 선택하셨고 열방의 선교의 도구로 삼으십니다. 하나님은 이들을 향한 거룩한 마음을 갖고 계십니다.

하나님의 은혜는 놀랍습니다. 인간의 지혜와 총명으로는 이해할 수 없습니다. 은혜가 무엇입니까? 하나님이 전혀 받을 자격이 없는 자에게 값없이 베푸시는 하나님의 격려, 호의입니다. 지금 외국인 노동자들의 생애를 변화시키시는 것은 하나님의 은혜입니다. 여기에 우리의 소망이 있습니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받으면 민초같은 존재들도 얼마든지 변화될 수 있다는 것입니다.

하나님의 백성에게는 우연이라는 것이 존재하지 않습니다. 모든 것이 하나님의 섭리일 뿐입니다. 한 사람의 외국인 노동자와의 만남도 우연이란 없습니다. 저는 10년 동안 외국인 노동자들을 섬기고 도우면서 정말 신비로운 경험을 많이 하며 살고 있습니다. 그중에 하나는 제가 노동자들의 문제를 가지고 있을 때마다 그 문제에 대한 해결책을 해주는 사람들을 만났다는 것입니다. 좋은 사람들을 만나게 하신 하나님의 은혜를 경험한 것입니다.

지금 우리 외국인 노동자들은 어느 때 보다 하나님의 은혜를 사모해야 할 때입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받으면 고난 중에도 춤을 출 수 있기 때문입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받으면 모든 환경을 역전시킬 수 있기 때문입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받으면 가치관이 세례를 받기 때문입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 받으면 새롭게 변화될 수 있기 때문입니다. 부디 하나님의 은혜를 사모하시길 주님의 이름으로 부탁드립니다.

올해 2004년에도 변함없이 희년국제선교교회를 위해 기도와 물질로 후원해 주시고 협력해 주신 모든 교회와 개인 후원자님에게 진심으로 감사를 드리며 새해에도 변함없는 하나님의 축복과 평화가 여러 성도님들의 가정과 교회에 임하기를 바랍니다.


희년국제선교교회 이야기

첫째 이야기: 추수 감사절 예배

주님의 은혜로 2004년 11월 21일 오후 2시에 추수감사절 예배를 드렸습니다. 날씨가 춥지 않았기 때문에 마석에서 연합예배를 드렸습니다. 마석 지역에 있는 외국인 노동자들을 초청해 풍성한 나눔과 섬김으로 감사절의 의미를 새겨 보았습니다. 각 공동체에 속한 그룹들이 자발적으로 음식을 준비하고 가리봉 공동체 소속 한인 성도님들이 음식을 준비해 주셔서 풍성한 식탁교제와 말씀, 그리고 음악회로 주님께 감사절 예배를 드렸습니다.

 

가리봉 공동체에 출석하는 수잔 자매와 주니 형제는 추수감사절을 맞이하여 세례를 받았습니다. 6주간의 세례 학습을 통해 세례의 의미와 필요성에 대하여 공부를 했습니다. 그들은 복음에 대한 새로운 깨달음으로 중생을 체험하고 세례를 받기를 결심했습니다. 하나님께서 은혜를 베풀어 주셔서 이들의 세례가 저희 공동체에 큰 기쁨이 되었습니다. 이들은 기쁨으로 공동체를 섬기는 분들입니다.


둘째 이야기: Marcy 자매의 투병

 

오랫동안 마석에서 함께 신앙 생활하며 지냈던 자매(Marcy, 43)가 만성신부전증으로 지난 10월 26일 강남병원에 입원했었습니다. 주님의 은혜로 치료비 전액 무료로 치료를 받을 수 있었습니다. Marcy 자매는 1997년에 한국에 입국해 마석 성생 가구 공단에서 생활을 해왔습니다. 최근 몸이 불편하여 광명내과에 방문해 검사한 결과 만성신부전증으로 판명이 되어 조석현 선생님의 소개로 강남병원에 입원하게 되었습니다.

여러 가지 검사 결과 신장 투석을 해야만 기능이 회복될 수 있다는 주치의에 소견으로 투석을 실시하게 되었습니다. 약 50일간 병원에 입원 하면서 복막투석을 위한 수술과 환자의 몸 상태를 수시로 점검하게 되었습니다. 그 결과 Marcy 자매에게 복막투석을 하기로 결정을 했습니다. 환자 상태가 너무 호전되었고 현재는 스스로 투석을 할 수 있게 되었습니다. 하나님의 은혜로 그녀는 지난 12월10일로 무사히 퇴원을 했습니다. 비록 평생투석을 해야만 신장기능을 할 수 있다는 판명을 받았지만 다시 살려주신 주님께 감사하다고 고백합니다. 그리고 강남병원에 신경과장 윤수진 선생님의 헌신적인 돌보심과 배려에 진심으로 감사를 드린다고 합니다.

그녀는 한국에 더 이상 체류할 수 없어 12월 22일에 필리핀으로 돌아갔습니다. 9년 전 남편이 먼저 세상을 떠난 상태이고 슬하에는 네 명의 자녀가 있습니다. 바라기는 필리핀에 돌아가서 투석 잘하고, 한국에서 새롭게 만난 예수님을 잘 믿고 열심히 신앙생활하기를 기도합니다.

세 번째 이야기:준 전도사님 졸업식

 

준(Jhun, 54) 형제가 드디어 2004년 12월 18일에 안디옥 신학교를 졸업 했습니다. 준 형제는 남은 생애를 오직 성경을 배워 복음을 전하기 위해 모든 경제적인 활동을 중지했습니다. 그리고 신학교에 입학한지 3년이 되어 졸업을 하게 되었습니다. 준 형제는 현재 가리봉 공동체에서 전도사로 섬기고 있습니다. 한국에서 주님을 인격적으로 만나, 저와는 1997년에 인연을 맺은 이래 현재까지(2004) 희년필리핀 공동체에서 신앙생활을 하고 있습니다.

그는 내년 2005년 9월에 필리핀으로 돌아갈 예정입니다. 준 전도사님은 필리핀에 돌아가면 공부를 계속해 목사 안수를 받고 교회를 개척과 고아원 사역을 할 것이라고 합니다. 한국에는 아내인 빌마와 슬하에 자녀가 3명이 있습니다. 이들 모두 한국에서 준과 빌마가 보내준 교육비로 학교를 졸업, 재학하고 있으며 특별히 큰 딸은 필리핀에서 좋은 일을 얻어 직장생활하고 둘째와 막내 이들은 대학에서 재학 중입니다. 앞으로 귀국해서 교회 개척과 목사 안수를 위해 기도가 필요합니다.

네 번째 이야기: 꿈의 땅 Jubilee Welfare Mission Center in Philippine

2005년도에는 저희 공동체가 필리핀 현지에 필리핀인들을 위한 Welfare Mission Center를 세우려고 기도하고 있습니다. “꿈의 땅" (Vision of Promise Land )이라고 제목을 붙이고 계획하며 준비를 시작했습니다.

오래전부터 하나님께서는 필리핀의 복음화를 위해 꿈의 땅을 준비시키셨습니다. 지금은 보이는 것이 아무것도 없는 활량 그 자체지만 하나님의 관점에서는 이미 모든 것들이 준비되고 있음을 봅니다. 우리가 해야 할 기도는 지금부터 그것을 위해 찾고 구하면 되는 것입니다.

어느덧 외국인 노동자 사역이 시작한 지가 벌써 10년째 접어듭니다. 제2의 사역의 도약을 꿈꾸어야 할 분기점에 서 있게 되었습니다. 저는 그동안 어떻게 필리핀 현지인들에게 복음을 전할 것인가? 그리고 이것을 위해 어떻게 원주민들에게 접근할 것인가를 고민해 왔습니다. 그러던 중 하나님께서 이 사역의 꿈을 보여주신 것 같습니다.

빌1:6에 의하면 “너희 속에 착한 일을 시작하신 이가 그리스도 예수의 날까지 이루실 줄 우리가 확신하노라” 말씀하십니다. 사도바울은 하나님께서 이미 이루신 일을 확신했고, 그들 가운데 착한 일을 시작하신 하나님께서 그것을 완성 시킬 것을 분명히 알았습니다. 저는 우리 안에서 필리핀 현지인들을 위한 하나님의 구원 사역을 시작하신 그분께서 반듯이 계획을 완성 시킬 것을 확신합니다.

제가 희년복지선교센터인 “꿈의 땅”을 계획하고 추진하려는 또 하나의 이유가 있습니다. 그동안 외국인 노동자들은 섬기며 사역하면서 가장 안타까워했던 부분은 외국인 노동자들이 한국에서 받은 상처를 갖고 고국에 돌아간다는 것입니다. 차별에서부터 시작해서 인권 탄압, 임금체불, 등으로 말할 수 없는 수모를 당하며 과거에 살았고 지금도 살고 있습니다. 이러한 차별과 억울함으로 보상받지 못한 체 병들어 귀국 했다는 것입니다. 그래서 그들의 마음에는 깊은 상처와 원망이 한반도 땅에 편만하게 퍼져있습니다. 또한 산재를 당했지만 그것에 대한 적절한 보상을 받지 못하고 귀국해야만 하는 사례가 종종 발생하여 많은 외국인 노동자들의 마음에 깊은 원망 소리가 깊어갑니다.

이러한 결과로 인하여 한국인에 대한 반한 감정이 고조 되어 가고 있으며 또한 복음을 방해하는 큰 요소로 자리 잡아 갑니다. 따라서 저희들은 필리핀 현지에 희년복지선교센터를 세워주고 운영함으로 미력하나마 이들과 가족들 위로하고 또한 외국인 노동자들에게 진 빛을 갚는 길이 될 것입니다. 이러한 통전적인 선교 전략을 통하여 필리핀 땅에 복음의 통로가 될 것입니다.

외국인 노동자들의 가족과 지역 주민들을 위해 여러 가지 복지혜택을 주고자 합니다. 희년의 집인 Jubilee House에는 농장과 유치원, Salom house에는 고아원과 진료소 운영 그리고 Mission house에는 문화교실과 교회를 운영하게 될 것입니다. 필리핀 땅에 예수님의 사랑이 세워질 것을 소망합니다.

God's Grace towards the Ordinary People

Life is truly difficult and tiring. It was difficult in the past, it is so now and it will be also difficult in the future. There has been no immigrant workers who are not in difficulty. Everyone has his or her own problems and they have a tendency to think that their problems are most serious. There is a heartbreaking story to the immigrant workers.
We cannot change the tiring life with our own strength and wisdom. Life can't be modified with our efforts. The life in the early days is to the present life what the old mountain is to the present mountain. The only thing we can do is to change the view of life. It is advisable for us to change ourselves rather than struggle to change life itself. It is not the environment surrounding us but the environment in ourselves that matters. It is the matter of our perspective on an environment.
The year 2004, also, has rendered immigrant workers difficult and tired. But we should not escape from difficulty when we are in more difficulty. Rather, we must confront the difficulty. We should embrace it and make it our friend. The more difficult life is, the more courageous we should be. We ought to learn wisdom and courage from the forerunners of faith, remembering them, who led dangerous lives.
When my friends and I meet difficult and tiring problems I meditate on or introduce the figures in the Bible. The common thing we can find in their lives is that they all went through troubles and trials. They already experienced our problems and the same pains as we did. If there is one thing different from others, when they faced troubles and trials they looked at the problems in terms of God's view and coped with them creatively.
Jacob is one of the persons who victoriously survived the dangerous lifetime. Jacob confessed that life is a travelling way. I learned to ruminate the lives of the immigrant workers through the life of Jacob. A mean person, a fraudulent person, an apprehensive person, a person under tribulation, a wandering person with a poker face. I learned the inside world of the human beings.
I learned how beautifully man can be changed through Jacob's life. A man who used to be too ready to tell lies closed his life in a mature way. I found God's grace in him. It was the very God's grace that changed Jacob.
Probably, the immigrant workers are like wild glass .God said that they are travellers and told us to treat them as guests. (Lev 19:33-34) God chose them and regard them as a tool of worldmission. God has a holy mind towards them.
God's grace is wonderful. It cannot be understood by man's wisdom and understanding. What is grace" It is God's free encouragement, favor given to a person who never deserves to receive them. For the present, it is God's grace that changes the lives of the immigrant workers. Here are our hopes. The weed-like beings are able to be changed given God's grace.
To the people of God, there is no casual incident. Everything is in the providence of God. It is not a causal incident that we meet a foreign worker. I have been serving and helping immigrant workers for 10 years and have experienced many mysterious things. One of them is like the following. each time I have a problem with immigrant workers I meet a person who has a solution to it. I experienced God's grace which allowed me to helpful good people.
Now is the time our immigrant workers should long for God's grace than any other times. Given God's grace we are willing to dance even in the middle of tribulation. Given God's grace we can reverse all the circumstances. Given God's grace our values are baptised. Given God's grace we can turn into a new life. By all means, in the name of Jesus I ask you all to long for God's grace.

Stories of Jubilee International Mission Church

The First story: Thanksgiving Worship

We gave thanksgiving worship service to God two o'clock in the afternoonNov, 21, 2004. Because the weather was not cold we held a joint worship service in Maseok. We ruminated the meaning of Thanksgiving Day through abundant sharing and serving each other by inviting the immigrant workers in Maseok. Each group in individual community prepared food voluntarily and Korean members belonging to Garibong community also prepared food, so that shared the table and word of God and we worshiped God holding a small musical concert.
Sister Susan and brother Juny who attend Garibong community were baptised at the Thanks- giving Day. They studied the need of baptism through learning for six weeks. After realizing the gospel they decided to be baptised as a sign of rebirth. That was a great joy to the community. They are sincere server in Garibong community.

The Second story: Sister Marcy's Fighting against Disease

Sister Marcy(43), who was attending church in Maseok and suffering from chronic kidney disease was hospitalized in Gangnam hospital last Oct. 26.. Sister Marcy came to Korea in 1997 and worked and lived in Seong Sang Furniture Center in Maseok. Recently she felt uncomfortable in her body and visited Gwangmyung hospital for internal disease and she diagnosed as a chronic kidney disease. By doctor Cho Suk Hyun'srecommendation she came to be hospitalized in Gangnam hospital.
After various examinations the physician in attendance said that she need dialysis to recover the function her kidney so she started dialysis treatment. While she was in hospital for 50 days, she had her body checked up regularly in order to find out if the operation for dialysis is possible. The doctor decided on peritoneal dialysis. The condition of the patient was getting much better and now she herself can do the dialysis. By God's grace she left hospital safe and sound last 10, Dec. Although she has to do dialysis for the rest of her life she confessed she really thanks God who gave her life again. And she gives thanks to Dr. Su Jin Yoon for her sincere care and regard.
She cannot stay Korea any longer, so she is scheduled to go back to the Philippines Dec, 22 Her husband died 9 years ago and now she has 4 children. I hope she will do dialysis well back in the Philippines and lead a faithful life with Jesus Christ whom she met here in Korea.




The Third Story: Preacher Jhun"s Graduation

At last, brother Jhun(54) graduated from Bible school Dec, 18 , 2004. Brother Jhun gave up all the economic activities so that he would study the Bible and preach the Gospel for the rest of his life. It has been 3 years since he entered the Bible school. Presently brother Jhun is serving as a preacher in Garibong community. In Korea he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and he met me in 1997 and we have been working together in Filipino community ever since. He is scheduled to go back to the Philippines in coming 2005. Jhun says when is back in the Philippines he is going to study more and will be ordained as a pastor and also he will set up a church. His wife, Vilma, is in Korea and he has 3 children in the Philippines. They have provided their children with their education fee and the eldest daughter got a good job and the second and the third sons are in college now. He needs your prayer for his ordination and setting up a church in the Philippines.

The Fourth Story: Jubilee Welfare Mission Center in the Philippines

Our community will proclaim the year 2005 as the origin year for building a Welfare Mission Center for the Filipinos in the Philippines. The title is "Vision of Promise Land" and we'll pray for it.
For a long time God has prepared the "Vision of Promise Land" for Filipinos. Even though it is not visible and just a picture of wilderness I believe God prepared everything. All we have to do is seek and ask for it. Now it is 10 years since I started the work for the immigrant workers. At the second turning point I have been thinking of how we will approach and preach the Gospel to the native Filipinos. Meanwhile, God allowed me to share this vision with some friends and members of the community.
Philippians chapter 1, verse 6 says, "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Apostle Paul was sure what God has completed and God will complete the good work He started among them. I am sure that God will complete the work of saving the native Filipinos through us.
There is another reason why we plan the "Vision of Promise Land" and drive it. For the past 10 years or so, the immigrant workers in Korea have experienced unspeakable sufferings such asinfringement on people's rights, delay of payment, industrial accidents and so still now. They have partially contributed to the industrial development of Korea and now they are our neighbors who are performing the difficult, dirty and dangerous jobs. What I feel sorry for them most is that even though they worked very hard they are just living in Korea or went back to their own country without being paid. There is no place for them to tell this unfair treatment. And the industrial accidents come about but they are not compensated for it appropriately and this make a deep scar in their heart, as is often the case with the immigrant workers. As a result, this causes and aggravates the feelings of anti-Korea. So we are going to set up and operate the Jubilee Mission Welfare Center so that the center can be an opportunity of serving, sharing and taking care of the families of those. And I think this could heal the souls who went back to their homes with a scar in their hearts. The Jubilee Mission Welfare Center for them and the poor Filipinos is God's command and calling towards us.

There will be several welfares: Jubilee House for the operation of farm and kindergarten School and Salom house for the operation oforphanage and medical clinic, MissionHouse for the culture class and a church. A community of sharing, caring and serving will be built. God gave us a immense dream. We thank God for the "Vision of Promise Land" In 2005, we'll pray for the "Vision of Promise Land" and the year 2005 to be the origin year of it.
